Taking place from 10–12 October, JJ Smith’s upcoming machinery show gives visitors the opportunity to see how the very latest CNC and robotics technologies can transform their businesses.

The company will showcase a wide range of equipment from some of Europe's leading woodworking machinery manufacturers and, for the very first time, visitors will be able to see, first-hand, how robotics can transform the functionality of a modern workshop.

Universal Cobot range

With labour shortages and lack of skills a major concern within the woodworking industry, JJ Smith has partnered with Universal Robots – the world’s leader in Cobot solutions. Owing to the machinery’s compact size and weight, they're therefore able to safely collaborate with operators/humans, without the additional floor space and safety requirements demanded by traditional industrial robots.

The Cobot’s aim is to replace the ‘Ds’ in manufacturing – dirty; dangerous; dull’ – which in turn allows staff/operators to be more productive elsewhere, and spending time performing those tasks the Cobot isn’t able to undertake. While incorporating the very latest in robotics technology, potential customers may be surprised to learn that the Universal Cobot range starts from as little as £27,000.

Four unique examples will be available for demonstration, which can be seen undertaking tasks such as loading and unloading complete production cells; placing and screwing of parts; machine tending in addition to assembly of component parts.

Intorex CNC machining centre & CNC lathe

The impressive line-up of CNC machines consists of an Intorex TMC 1500 five-axis CNC machining centre, which can produce a wide range of traditional turned components, along with more complex-shaped contemporary furniture or stair parts, which come off the machine finish sanded.

Standard features seen on the Intorex TMC include an automatic hopper feed loading and unloading system; milling/shaping head; horizontal sanding unit; saw blade for turning; and an overhead router head with 10-position rotary tool changer. In addition, visitors can also expect to see the Intorex CNB 1500 CNC lathe.

Comec MD TOP XL four-axis CNC

In terms of other CNC offerings, Comec’s versatile MD TOP XL four-axis CNC will also be on display, which boasts a X axis capacity of 3,350mm or 1,500 + 1,500mm in twin working fields. Benefitting from quick and easy programming and machine set up, the MD TOP XL is ideal when it comes to producing parts for both garden and indoor furniture, children's play equipment, bed frames, transport packaging, etc.

ALFA CNC machines

CNC machines dedicated to the processing of doors will include the ALFA NC milling and slotting machine, which, to date, UK and Ireland sales equal 100 machine sales. Also on demonstration will be the ALFA Twin through-feed door processing centre, which is capable of simultaneously machining both sides of a door, which is typically completed in just two minutes.

Finally, the all-new ALFA Jamb through-feed machine with automatic infeed loading and outfeed unloading systems, specifically designed for door linings, will also be available.

Cross-cutting & radial arm saws

Cross-cutting continues to be one of JJ Smith’s most important product ranges and as such, two Stromab programmable saws will be available for demo: the Matrix straight cutting saw and the CT600 model for straight or angled cutting. Making its debut, the all-new Stromab programmable stop system will be shown linked to an up cut Stromab TR501 saw.

For the volume cutting of small blocks for furniture, or the cutting of stair wedges and glue blocks, the Camam TAC 1 automatic hopper fed crosscut saw is an ideal choice. This impressive crosscut line-up is completed by three different radial arm saws from Graule, including the large capacity ZS200N, which will be equipped with pneumatic clamping and LCD read out to the cutting angle and laser line. For trenching and notching, the Graule QNF will be on show.

Other key machines available for demonstration will include Deltawood multi-head programmable swing chisel mortisers for doors, gates and general joinery; Fimal semi-automatic panel saws; Taylor JLT solid wood edge and face laminating clamps; in addition to the JJS range of heavy-duty hydraulic scissor lift tables.
